Bringing Some Holiday Cheer to Brick-and-Mortar Sales

For brick-and-mortar retailers, this holiday season may or may not be “the most wonderful time of the year,” as the 1963 Andy Williams Christmas standard has it. Location data firm Blis reports that many shoppers don’t plan to spend any more or less on gift buying this year than they did in 2017.

Study: Holiday Sale Event Spurs More Consumer Spend

A new Blis research report on U.S. consumer shopping plans reveals 57.7 percent will do most holiday shopping online with nearly 40 percent hitting brick-and-mortars at “generalist” retailers including Walmart and Target as well as local mom-and-pop shops.

Forecast: Most Holiday Shoppers to Buy Online

The news for brick-and-mortar retailers isn’t bad, though. While most shoppers will hit online outlets, 40% say they’ll be shopping malls and local merchants nearly as often as they buy from online giants like Amazon.
