Blis expands into Malaysia with Mohanarajah Visuvanathan at the helm

Location data technology company Blis has announced its latest Asian expansion plans with the opening of an office in Kuala Lumpur.

The agency has appointed Malaysia-based digital media honcho Mohanarajah Visuvanathan to lead as group head, reporting to Richard Andrew, Blis’ regional business director Asia.

Visuvanathan joins Blis from MobMe Asia, where he was regional director. A digital strategist with more than 10 years of experience, Visuvanathan has also held senior roles at Sizmek, Mkini Dotcom and Out There Media.

Last year, Blis secured US$25 million in Series B funding to kickstart a major international expansion push. At the time, the agency had APAC bases in Singapore and Hong Kong and had just launched in the United States.

Just over a year later, the agency opened an office in Indonesia and now has plans to open bases in The Philippines and Thailand over the coming months. The company also eventually intends to expand into India.

Visuvanathan said: “This year alone we’ve seen smartphone penetration grow to over 80 per cent, and with this comes an enormous opportunity for marketers to better understand and engage Malaysian consumers.”

Andrews added: “Mohanarajah has a unique insight into the Malaysian market which makes him an invaluable partner in a time when Blis is undergoing heightened investment across the region.”

“Establishing operations in Malaysia, one of the region’s fastest growing mobile markets, ensures we are well positioned to engage top media agencies who are increasingly shifting budget to programmatic spend.”
