My Digital Hero: Amy Fox, Product Director, Blis

Amy Fox is Product Director at Blis. We find out who her digital hero is, the person who has most inspired her in her career.

Who is your digital hero?

Karen Blackett (Group M UK Chief Exec).

What has she done to win hero status in your eyes?

Outside of Karen’s phenomenal career achievements, I first became aware of her at a Women in Wireless conference a few years ago. Karen talked very openly about her challenges in balancing her career with a young baby, which really resonated with me.

The question of “How can i have children and still be as successful at work as my colleagues?” is a question that weighs heavily on many women’a minds.

How has her heroism helped drive digital?

Karen spoke very frankly about how having children doesn’t have to supersede a career and stressed the importance to set clear boundaries and be confident with your colleagues in communicating these.

The more women in digital that not only stay but continue to grow in businesses after starting families the better and can only be a positive for the overall digital industry.

What are the biggest challenges in digital we need another hero to solve?

The industry is going through seismic changes this year which will need the wider ecosystem to come together in support of a transparent, privacy-first approach to digital advertising.

This is bigger than any one person and we at Blis are leading the charge on what a post-cookie world looks like for the industry and consumers alike.

What is your most heroic personal achievement so far in digital?

I have helped to build Blis into the successful, international business it is today from the ground up (starting back in 2012 when we were only 10 in a basement flat in London).

I’ve led Product for the later half of this and we’ve always challenged ourselves to be ahead of the curve in terms of cutting-edge technology and products that really excite our clients. We’ve achieved this by being agile, dynamic and constantly pushing ourselves to be better.

On a more personal note, I am now a mother which I feel has helped to make me better at my job. I’m more decisive, confident and have less time for distractions which has come from learning to balance parenthood with a leadership role in the business.

I don’t feel that I have had to choose between being a great parent or a great product director – I’m simply doing both to the best of my abilities and (hopefully) reassuring other women that they absolutely can too.
